The Colegio De Las Navas was established through an enabling Municipal Ordinance No. 17 – 2005 enacted and adopted on January 10, 2005 by the Sangguniang Bayan and, on review and final reading, duly approved by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of the Province of Northern Samar on April 15, 2005. The said Ordinance is titled as “An Ordinance Establishing the Community College in the Municipality of Las Navas, Province of Northern Samar to be known as Kolehiyo De Las Navas.” Also, Municipal Ordinance No. 18 – 2005 was enacted on the 28th day of March entitled “An Ordinance Enacting the Herein Charter of the Community College in the Municipality of Las Navas, Northern Samar known as “Colegio De Las Navas.”
The name attached to Colegio, which is “De Las Navas” was a surname taken from a Spanish Military Colonel who was instrumental in the occupation by the Spanish Government during the 18th Century in the Municipality of Las Navas.
The Colegio De Las Navas, classified as an economic enterprise under Republic Act No. 7160, otherwise known as the Local Government Code of 1991, started its operation on June of School Year 2005-2006 offering degree programs such as Bachelor of Elementary Education, Bachelor of Secondary Education, Bachelor of Science in Criminology, Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. All these degree programs, which are approved by the Board of Trustees of Colegio De Las Navas, in its Board Resolution No. 01 – 2005, series of 2005, are recognized by the Commission on Higher Education.
Colegio De Las Navas, in School Year 2008-2009, also offered secondary education, named as Laboratory High School, which serves as the pre-Teacher training ground for tertiary students taking up Teacher Education – i.e., Bachelor of Elementary Education and Bachelor of Secondary Education. For School Year 2016-2017, it offers also Grade 11 of the Senior High School. All secondary education offerings – both Junior High School and Senior High School – are recognized by the Department of Education.
